Orikata Crane — craft.

A sheet of indigo asanoha washi folds itself into a traditional paper crane, one fold per beat: the eight-panel collapse into a square base, the petal fold, the narrowing folds, the neck, the tail and the head. Every fold is real hinged geometry from a fold engine that splits the paper along each crease and tracks the layers, so the white reverse side, the stacked edges and the shadows come out right. The crane flaps on the drop, flies over the camera, and its shadow crosses the table just before a vermilion Orikata seal is stamped where the sheet lay.

A 14 s square film: a sheet of indigo washi folds itself into a paper crane, one real hinged fold on every beat of a koto-and-taiko score written in code. The crane flaps, flies off over the camera, and a vermilion studio seal is stamped where the sheet lay.
